Abstract
Based on the analysis of German political pamphlets of the second quarter of the 19th century, the article attempts to trace the development of the ambivalent perception of Russia in the international discourse of Germany, emphasizing the revival of the old propaganda cliche about the “Russian threat”, as the most convenient and safe tool for projecting their own internal problems.
