Abstract
Au tournant des années 1970-1980, certains espaces de la banlieue lyonnaise seraient des « ghettos ». Du moins est-ce ainsi que les construisent et les perçoivent des discours émanant d’instances administratives ou médiatiques. À Villeurbanne et à Vaulx-en-Velin, l’effet de lieu qui pèse sur ces territoires s’accentue à l’été 1981, émaillé par des affrontements entre jeunes et forces de l’ordre. Résumant les données de la crise des banlieues au seul problème de l’« insécurité », ces discours contribuent à diffuser une lecture ethnique des enjeux urbains.
