Entre les années cinquante et la fin des années soixante-dix, les populations juives du Maroc, de Tunisie, et d’Algérie ont massivement migré vers Israël, la France ou encore vers le Canada. Ces migrations ont conduit les organisations juives de ces deux derniers pays à mettre en œuvre un important programme d’accueil et à repenser leur rapport au politique. Le parcours des individus témoigne du fait que la migration ne constitue pas uniquement un face-à-face entre migrants et États : entrent également en jeu des organisations locales, nationales et transnationales. Celles-ci peuvent se mobiliser pour contribuer à l’élaboration des politiques publiques, mais aussi conduire une intervention sociale auprès des nouveaux arrivants afin de répondre à l’urgence de leur prise en charge. L’analyse de l’action des services sociaux juifs à Paris et à Montréal témoigne par ailleurs des évolutions majeures que connaît le travail social au cours de cette période et permet d’éclairer les orientations dans lesquelles s’inscrivent ces politiques d’accueil.
