RESUMO O presente estudo objetivou refletir sobre as relações de gênero em uma academia de karatê na região do Cariri Oeste do estado do Ceará. Para a compreensão e interpretação das dinâmicas sociais estabelecidas, utilizou-se a etnografia apoiada na confecção de diários de campo e da observação participante, no período de junho de 2023 a março de 2024. Considerando as construções tradicionais no campo do karatê, quando adentram em um espaço predominantemente masculinizado, as mulheres acabam se deparando com uma limitação de poder, de certa forma consentindo operações coercitivas que as direcionam, em muitos casos, a adotarem posturas e comportamentos pautados na feminilidade hegemônica, aceitando o desempenho de um papel secundario no interior desse campo.
