Abstract
El objetivo principal del artículo es analizar cómo las élites conservadoras de Antioquia utilizaron rituales cívicos y conmemoraciones públicas para legitimar su poder político, construir una identidad regional cohesionada y desafiar las narrativas centralistas y liberales dominantes en la segunda mitad del siglo xix. Esto se enmarca en un esfuerzo por comprender el papel de las prácticas culturales y simbólicas en la formación del Estado en América Latina, especialmente en Colombia. El artículo combina un enfoque cualitativo e interdisciplinario para examinar eventos clave, como el funeral de Pedro Justo Berrío y la cápsula del tiempo del bicentenario de Medellín, en 1875. A partir del análisis de fuentes primarias —poesía, oraciones fúnebres, obituarios, prensa de la época y documentos de archivo— el artículo explora cómo estos actos fortalecieron la cohesión de una comunidad política imaginada, reafirmando un sentido de pertenencia basado en la tradición, la religión y la autoridad. Estas ceremonias, al articular una memoria colectiva compartida, no solo reforzaron el orden conservador, sino que también sirvieron para disputar las interpretaciones históricas promovidas desde el centro del poder.
