Abstract
La adopción infantil es un proceso legal mediante el cual una o dos personas adultas asumen la responsabilidad parental de un niño o niña que no es su hijo biológico, con la intención de formar una familia permanente. Este acto transfiere de forma legal y permanente los derechos y responsabilidades de los padres biológicos a los padres adoptivos, otorgando al niño adoptado los mismos derechos que un hijo biológico, incluyendo el apellido y los derechos de herencia. El objetivo primordial de la adopción infantil es garantizar el derecho de todo menor a vivir y desarrollarse en un entorno familiar seguro, estable y afectivo, especialmente cuando su familia de origen no puede proporcionárselo. Se considera una medida de protección infantil fundamental, primando siempre el interés superior del menor. La adopción infantil puede ser nacional (la más frecuente), cuando los adoptantes y el niño residen en el mismo país, e internacional (se observa una reducción significativa en las dos últimas décadas), cuando los adoptantes y el niño residen en diferentes países. Dentro de estas categorías, existen diferentes tipos de adopción según la legislación de cada país, como la adopción plena o cerrada (que extingue los vínculos legales con la familia biológica) y la adopción simple o abierta (que puede mantener ciertos vínculos).
