Abstract
Principalement connue pour sa poésie, Ida Faubert a écrit des contes qui sont restés en grande partie méconnus. Avec un style à la fois incisif et empreint d’humour, elle met en lumière diverses facettes de la violence au sein de la société haïtienne. Fille d’un président haïtien exilé, Faubert aborde sans détour les questions politiques dans son oeuvre, dénonçant l’incapacité et la tyrannie des dirigeants. Ayant passé la majeure partie de sa vie en France, elle explore également les relations complexes entre Haïti et son ancienne puissance coloniale, notamment au moyen du thème de l’échec du retour au pays natal et de la figure du Blanc. S’inscrivant dans la tradition créole, où l’invisible et l’inexplicable jouent un rôle central, elle met en scène des revenants, des zombis et des hougans criminels pour interroger une vision idéalisée du vaudou. Cet article examine, au prisme du conte, la représentation de la violence institutionnelle et celle du milieu magico-religieux.
