This study investigated the short-term effects of controlled land application of olive mill wastewater (OMW) on soil properties and leachate infiltrating out of the soil. Two types of soils (clay loam soil and loamy sand soil) added to six PVC columns were used. The soil thickness was 50 cm in a 1.0 m column. OMW was added at doses of (10, 20, and 40 L/m2). The results showed that controlled land treatment has great potential to be used for OMW treatment and can reduce the need for organic matter and nutrients. Clay-loam soils were more efficient in the removal of chemical oxygen demand, BOD5, and phenols and other compounds when OMW was applied at these loading rates.
