Abstract
Cet article explore la spiritualité dans l’art comme une forme d’empowerment pour les femmes marginalisées dans les cultes religieux occidentaux. Ce phénomène de marginalisation a été réinvesti lors de la seconde vague féministe des années 1960, et a donné lieu à l’émergence d’une nouvelle figure spirituelle féminine : la Déesse. Cette figure génère un mouvement à la fois spirituel et contre-symbolique, qui offre aux femmes croyantes et non croyantes un espace libéré des dynamiques religieuses patriarcales. Plus en accord avec leurs principes, ce courant permet aux femmes une liberté de leur corps et de leur sexualité, ainsi qu’une inclusivité qui n’était alors pas possible avec les religions monothéistes. Dans cet article, Marine Cortese étudie des artistes contemporaines des années 1970 à 1980 qui ont revalorisé les mythes, les rituels et le corps comme des espaces sacrés. Leur pratique entend construire une communauté spirituelle qui redéfinit la féminité et conteste les mécanismes oppressifs, liés à la prédominance masculine dans les religions monothéistes. En offrant aux femmes une alternative à la domination religieuse masculine, les artistes redéfinissent la spiritualité comme un espace d’expression artistique, de résistance et de transformation culturelle.
