Abstract
Résumé Cette étude qualitative vise à mieux comprendre l’expérience subjective de pères ayant un enfant vivant avec une condition médicale complexe (CMC) nécessitant des soins soutenus et spécialisés à domicile. Bien que la littérature s’intéresse principalement au vécu des mères, peu d’études documentent l’expérience des pères dans ce contexte d’où la pertinence de cette étude. L’article fait état de quelques résultats qui mettent en lumière les répercussions de cette situation sur la santé physique et mentale des pères rencontrés, leur vie conjugale, professionnelle et sociale. Il rend compte aussi d’un vécu marqué par une détresse émotionnelle souvent intériorisée, un sentiment d’isolement et une difficulté à nommer leurs besoins personnels. Malgré ces défis, des pères ont aussi témoigné de retombées positives. Dans cet article, nous proposons aussi quelques pistes de réflexion pour adapter les pratiques et ainsi mieux intégrer la réalité paternelle dans l’accompagnement des familles.
