Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The genus Barynotus Germar, 1817 comprises 25 species (Alonso-Zarazaga et al. 2023) with predominantly nocturnal activity. The life history of most Barynotus remains poorly studied. To date, this genus is represented in Ukraine by three species (Khrapov & Yunakov 2024). Barynotus makolskii Smreczyński, 1955 Amphigonic species, endemic to the Carpathians. A single pair was collected in the Lviv region in 2021 (Khrapov & Yunakov 2024). The female was swept in the evening on the forest edge from flowers of Primula elatior (L.), while the male was caught in a pitfall trap. Yet another historical male specimen, apparently from the collection of Józef Grolle, was found in the collection of State Museum of Natural History, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Lviv) with a label “KARPATY KOMARNIKI”. Barynotus moerens (Fabricius, 1792) A polyphagous species distributed across the boreal and nemoral zones of Europe (Yunakov et al. 2018). In Ukraine, it is known only from the Zakarpattia Region (Roubal 1941). A single female from Vorokhta collected over 100 years ago is preserved in the State Museum of Natural History, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine collection. It remains the only known specimen from Ukraine. The SMNH collection also holds four specimens from the Tatras. Barynotus obscurus (Fabricius, 1775) A polyphagous species occurring in boreal and nemoral zones of Europe (Yunakov et al. 2018), and introduced to the Canadian northeast (Brown 1950). The species is parthenogenetic throughout most of its range, with narrowly distributed amphigonic populations in France (Hoffmann, 1954). Despite its large range, Barynotus obscurus rarely appears in general entomological samples. It inhabits meadows, pastures, gardens, and urban parks (Krátký & Sprick 2020). Thirty-six specimens of this species are currently housed in the State Museum of Natural History, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine collection. The collection of State Museum of Natural History, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine contains a total of 43 specimens of the genus represented by three species housed in cabinet-943, insect-box-583. All beetles were collected in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. However, only 4 specimens have labels with indication of the year of collection, the rest specimens marked with the day of the month only. The weevils were collected by apparently M. Łomnicki and A. Stöckl, V. Zanko.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
