Abstract
Cet article montre comment un onanya 1 shipibo travaillant dans le tourisme de l’ayahuasca perçoit, raconte et résiste à l’instrumentalisation de sa pratique. Respecter l’éthique propre à son savoir-faire et à son rôle nécessite, selon lui, non seulement une reconfiguration des pratiques, mais aussi une adaptation des discours. Il s’agit de répondre adroitement aux projections et aux attentes de la clientèle internationale et, en même temps, à ce dont cette clientèle a besoin pour devenir une patientèle. Le passage du client au patient est ce qui permet à cet onanya de rester fidèle à son apprentissage et son intégrité de soignant, à sa « diète » (sama en shipibo). L’idée n’est pas de reproduire une tradition, mais de parvenir à l’actualiser dans un contexte de marchandisation et de commercialisation. Aussi, la pratique de guérison se connecte ici également aux asymétries socio-économiques et politiques héritées de la colonisation que reconduit l’économie néo-libérale globalisée. En défense d’une ayahuasca ayant une « mère », à laquelle vient s’opposer le devenir drogue d’une ayahuasca « orpheline », émerge la proposition thérapeutique de séances d’ayahuasca sans ingestion d’ayahuasca de la part de la patientèle, une « ayahuasca sans ayahuasca ». En reconfigurant les attentes, les attitudes et les manières de faire de ses patients, cet onanya prend un positionnement et ouvre des perspectives qui vont bien au-delà de ce contexte particulier.
