Abstract
Anesthesiology is pleased to announce changes and several new additions to its Editorial Board in 2025.This January, Andrew Davidson, M.B.B.S., M.D., and Laszlo Vutskits, M.D., Ph.D., both long-time Editors of the journal, were appointed Deputy Editors. Dr. Davidson is a Senior Staff Anaesthetist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Medical Director of the Melbourne Children’s Trials Centre at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, head of the Anaesthesia Research Group at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, and Honorary Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Critical Care at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Vutskits is the Head of Pediatric Anesthesia in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Intensive Care at the University Hospital of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland. Also in January, Anesthesiology welcomed three new Editors to the journal’s Editorial Board: Chad M. Brummett, M.D., Mark D. Neuman, M.D., M.Sc., and Elizabeth L. Whitlock, M.D., M.Sc.Chad M. Brummett, M.D., is Bert N. LaDu Professor of Anesthesiology and Senior Associate Chair of Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is the Co-Director of the Overdose Prevention Engagement Network (OPEN) and the cross-campus Opioid Research Institute, both at the University of Michigan. Dr. Brummett’s research interests include predictors of acute and chronic postsurgical pain and failure to derive benefit from interventions and surgeries primarily performed to treat pain. He is particularly interested in the impact of a fibromyalgia-like or nociplastic pain phenotype on analgesic outcomes. He is the Co-PI of multiple NIH grants studying these concepts and also receives funding from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, SAMHSA, CDC, and multiple foundations.Mark D. Neuman, M.D., M.Sc., is Horatio C. Wood Professor and Vice-Chair for Clinical and Translational Research in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also holds appointments in Medicine (Geriatrics) and Epidemiology and Directs the Penn Center for Perioperative Outcomes Research and Transformation (CPORT). Dr. Neuman practices general operative anesthesia and leads prospective and retrospective comparative effectiveness and implementation research studies focused on improving patient-centered outcomes for older adults and improving pain treatment for individuals undergoing a range of surgical procedures.Elizabeth L. Whitlock, M.D., M.Sc., is an Associate Professor in the University of California, San Francisco Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Care. She completed medical school and clinical research training at Washington University in St. Louis, then pursued anesthesiology residency and advanced research training at the University of California, San Francisco. A clinical anesthesiologist and epidemiological researcher, Dr. Whitlock’s work centers on understanding the impact of perioperative care on patient-centered cognitive and functional outcomes, like delirium and cognitive change, in older adults. Her cross-cutting research recently received the Silverstein Award for Emerging Investigators from the American Geriatrics Society. Currently supported by the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health, her research program intends to facilitate patient-centered counseling about postoperative neurocognitive disorders.
