Unifying Impedance Control, Admittance Control, and Hybrid Methods into a Sensitivity Framework
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This paper introduces a unified framework for Interaction Controllers from the perspective of a trade-off between sensitivity to force sensor error and modelling error. The task of selecting a controller therefore reduces to optimizing sensitivities. However, the trade-off exists across control structures, and so optimization requires hybrid methods which can interpolate across the spectrum. Based on the sensitivity trade-off, we introduce a novel hybrid method which uses a weighted-sum of a force sensor estimate and a model-based force estimate as input to an Admittance Controller. This method improves upon previous hybrid methods by removing the dependency on inertia-shaping, being compatible with position-controlled joints, and having an explicit relation between the control parameter and the sensitivity level. The importance of considering force sensor error, and the utility of the novel method is demonstrated for improving contact stability on an industrial robot arm.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
