Abstract
Les dispositions juridiques fondées sur les caractéristiques des sols sont très rares. En France, l’une d’entre elles indique que le zonage agricole des documents d’urbanisme peut être attentif au « potentiel agronomique, économique et biologique » des parcelles. Cet article s’interroge sur la cohérence entre l’interprétation qui est faite, tant par le juge administratif que par d’autres acteurs, de ce critère et la définition scientifique de la qualité des sols entendue comme leur capacité à rendre des fonctions. Si certaines similitudes ont pu être observées, il apparaît que la qualité des sols est invisibilisée par les enjeux socio-spatiaux du foncier agricole.
