Open-source software development is a longstanding form of collaboration in the technology sector.As high school teachers, we explore the open-source model as a pedagogical framework, building on our work in a graduate-level Knowledge Building course at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.We suggest that framing computer science education around the open-source model can support pervasive and authentic knowledge building discourses, by producing explicit artifacts made accessible to the local community and beyond to support continual idea improvement.
