Abstract
Bacteria have evolved myriad anti-phage defense systems, most of which remain poorly understood. Some of these systems use Overcoming Lysogenization Defect (OLD) proteins, which possess a Toprim domain that can cleave DNA and an ABC-family ATPase domain. OLD proteins have a proposed classification system based on their surrounding genetic context, including Class 2 OLD genes which are found adjacent to a predicted helicase gene and constitute a broad-spectrum anti-phage defense system called the Gabija system.
