Abstract: Historians are wrong to accept the claims of ancient commentators that Philip of Macedon besieged Selymbria in 340 b.c. and wrote a letter to the Athenians complaining about their support for that city. This material derives from the forged documents in Demosthenes' speech On the Crown and is worthless as historical evidence. Abstract: Les historiens ont tort d'accepter les allégations des commentateurs antiques selon lesquelles Philippe de Macédoine aurait assiégé Sélymbrie en 340 av. j.-c. et aurait écrit aux Athéniens pour se plaindre du soutien qu'ils apportaient à cette ville. Les preuves sur lesquelles ils se basent proviennent des faux documents inclus dans le discours de Démosthène Sur la couronne et n'ont aucune valeur historique.
