Abstract
Cet article explore la place croissante du tutorat privé en Inde, notamment chez les élèves marginalisés. Stratifié, le système scolaire indien perpétue les disparités en matière d’accès à l’éducation, de qualité d’enseignement et de résultats. Le tutorat privé est devenu un élément important, quoiqu’inégalitaire, du paysage éducatif. À partir d’entretiens approfondis avec 22 acteurs de l’éducation dans quatre États différents, l’étude révèle que le tutorat privé est souvent perçu comme positif pour les élèves défavorisés, dans un contexte d’incertitudes et d’inégalités systémiques au sein du champ éducatif. Malgré son caractère hiérarchique, le tutorat privé a été considéré comme porteur d’un potentiel « capacitant ». L’article critique le fait de miser sur le tutorat en tant que mécanisme compensatoire et plaide pour que l’on s’attaque aux carences systémiques du système éducatif indien. Il propose d’intégrer un soutien scolaire structuré au sein du système éducatif, afin de réduire les écarts en matière d’égalité des chances et de promouvoir des résultats équitables pour les élèves marginalisés.
