Abstract
Abstract This chapter describes a peer-mediated method of youth migration research and psychosocial intervention called Storyboard Peers that combines visual expression, narrative, and facilitated focus group methods. In ongoing research with forced migrant youth living in prolonged displacement in Malaysia and Thailand, Storyboard Peers shows potential as a trauma-sensitive, child-centered approach that draws out the meanings youth ascribe to their migration journeys with reference to their self-concept, sense of belonging, and future orientation. The self-paced, iterative method allows youth to regulate their self-disclosure based on their own readiness and sense of safety. The method illuminates dimensions of migration and its implications that are meaningful to youth but may not be uncovered through traditional, deductive, theory-driven research methods or social service interventions.
