Abstract
Earth’s self-compression, a consequence of its own Newtonian gravitation, engenders internal pressure. The Adams‐Williamson equation adeptly characterizes the density distribution within Earth’s interior, highlighting the role of pressure in storing elastic energy. This stored energy forms the basis for deriving the Newtonian gravitational field. Gravity anomalies have been observed over the Mariana Trench. Intriguingly, these anomalies can be explicated by a local variation in the gravitational field below sea level.
