Abstract
Some Salmonella spp. are zoonotic, a frequent cause of food borne illness in Canada and known to infect humans through contaminated poultry and poultry products. Vertical transmission of certain serotypes of Salmonella spp. from hen to egg has been demonstrated. There is correlation between environmental Salmonella spp. isolation from poultry houses and incidence in the flock. We enrolled twenty-one producers in the study to determine causes for Salmonella spp. occurrence in table egg barn environments. A questionnaire was administered at the time of sampling.
