Over the decades, a plethora of boundary integral equations (BIEs) have been formulated to tackle the increasingly challenging problems faced by o.a. design engineers of electronic circuits and components. Despite their clear advantages such as a reduced matrix size and automatic inclusion of unbounded background media, BIEs often suffer from detrimental characteristics, i.e. low-frequency or dense-mesh breakdown, and internal resonances. As this detrimental behavior can emerge inherently or due to a particular discretization scheme, it is important to investigate such properties of promising formulations thoroughly to devise breakdown-free solutions and alternatives. For single-source BIEs, these analyses are remarkably more sparsely populated compared to the more conventional BIEs.
