Convergences between the BRICS Business Council and the New Development Bank: Implications of the BRICS membership expansion

Abstract
With the consolidation and expansion of BRICS, a range of dialogue mechanisms have emerged, prominently including the New Development Bank (NDB) and the BRICS Business Council (BBC). The NDB was established to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects, while the BBC was created to enhance trade, business, and investment among member countries. This article examines the convergence of interests between the NDB and the BBC through the lens of critical international political economy literature. Using neo-Marxian and Gramscian perspectives on the state, civil society, and class, the analysis employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate how the council’s strategic priorities align with the bank's financial strategies. Considering these intersections, the research explores the implications of BRICS expansion for these interactions and their broader impact.
