Cette introduction propose une approche critique des déchets envisagés comme un objet central pour penser le capitalisme, son expansionnisme, ses effets sociaux, politiques et écologiques. Les auteur·ices explorent leur production (y compris par les sciences sociales) et les dispositifs qui en organisent le traitement, le contrôle, l’abandon ou la marchandisation. Les tensions entre innovation et obsolescence, attachement et séparation sont scrutées. Enfin, alors que les déchets bouleversent bien des frontières, l’utilité de certaines limites analytiques est soulignée.
