Artiklen undersøger to parallelle spørgsmål om, hvornår en oplysning om Danmarks nationale sikkerhed er fortrolig. Spørgsmålet belyses i U 2020.1818 Ø i sagen om den tidligere PET-chefs bidrag til bogen »Syv år med PET – Jakob Scharfs tid«. Med afsæt i denne afgørelse ses der nærmere på emnet og de hensyn og tendenser, som fremgår af lovgivning og praksis. I den forbindelse understreges den betydelige praksisændring, som den nylige afgørelse er udtryk for.
