A dilatação vólvulo-gástrica é uma enfermidade de caráter urgente que consiste na dilatação e torção do estômago, ocorrendo normalmente sob os eixos da cárdio ou piloro. Foi recebido no Setor de Patologia Veterinária do Instituto Federal Catarinense um cão, fêmea, labrador, advindo de clínica veterinária particular com diagnóstico de polirradiculoneurite e posterior eutanásia. Na necropsia, observou-se distensão gástrica importante e alteração de coloração da serosa, com torção em seu eixo transversal e porção do corpo comprimida em formato de silhueta “acinturada” com linha representativa do distúrbio de circulação, sem obstrução de cárdia e piloro. Até o momento, não há relatos na literatura do padrão de rotação observado neste caso. Devido a alta taxa de mortalidade, o sucesso do tratamento da dilatação vólvulo-gástrica está intimamente relacionado à identificação precoce, com ênfase na avaliação correta dos sinais clínicos e exames complementares, além do início de terapia adequada e estabilização do paciente, para que aumente a chance de sobrevida do animal acometido.
