First Record of Tortistilus wickhami (Van Duzee, 1908) (Hemiptera: Membracidae) in Vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Tortistilus wickhami is widely distributed across North America. Previously reported from Canada to South California, it is now documented for the first time in the vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. This treehopper is of economic significance, as it is a suspected candidate for the transmission of grapevine red blotch virus, raising concerns about its potential role in the spread of plant pathogens and its impact on grapevine health and production. Specimens of T. wickhami were collected between May and July 2023 on grapevines ( Vitis vinifera ) cv. Cabernet Sauvignon across four sites in “Valle de Guadalupe” vineyards and identified with morphological criteria and DNA barcoding. This is the first record of this species in the region, as well as in Mexico, expanding its known distribution southward to the Baja California Peninsula.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
