Türkiye’s leisure repertoire: The cultural consonance paradox on the path to perceived health and happiness

Abstract
The aim of the study was to examine the importance of leisure activities in terms of cultural consonance by assessing whether there was cultural consensus regarding the leisure activities engaged in by individuals living in three metropolitan cities in Türkiye. Furthermore, the relationships among cultural consonance in leisure, leisure satisfaction, health perception, and happiness were investigated. The results indicated the presence of cultural consensus concerning leisure activity participation. In contrast, cultural consonance in leisure was found to not have a significant direct effect on leisure satisfaction. However, leisure satisfaction demonstrated a direct and a significant effect on both happiness and health perception. Health perception was also found to have a direct and significant effect on happiness. Moreover, health perception was shown to mediate the relationship between leisure satisfaction and happiness with the indirect effect being statistically significant and positive.
