Abstract
In zinc electrowinning, many researchers have investigated the new anode materials instead of lead silver anode, such as dimensionally stable anodes (DSAs), consisting of mixed metal oxide coatings on titanium or nickel substrates. Mn2+ is often encountered as impurities in the zinc electrolyte. The deposition of MnO2 improves the catalytic behavior of the Pb-Ag anode, but blocks the catalytic sites on Ti/IrO2–Ta2O5 anode. So it is important to review the electrochemical behaviour the DSA anode and the lead silver anode in the zinc electrolyte containing Mn2+, especially the reduction of electrodeposited MnO2 on the DSA anodes.
