Salah satu kota besar di Indonesia yang saat ini mengalami pertambahan penduduk yang signifikan adalah Kota Makassar. Bertambahnya penduduk di Kota Makassar senantiasa diikuti oleh bertambahnya bangunan-bangunan permukiman maupun bukan permukiman. Hal tersebut bisa terlihat pada pembangunan Kelurahan Tanjung Merdeka yang kian masa mengalami peningkatan aktivitas pembangunan. Selain itu, harga tanah di kawasan tersebut juga semakin meroket dan menyebabkan alih fungsi lahan secara besar-besaran, tidak terkendali, dan juga mempengaruhi tatanan kesejahteraan komunitas lokal di kawasan tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah; (1) Menganalisis perubahan pemanfaatan ruang di Kelurahan Tanjung Merdeka; dan (2) Menganalisis implikasi sejauh perubahan pemanfaatan ruang terhadap perubahan sosial ekonomi komunitas komunitas lokal. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah teknik analisis spasial, statistik kualitatif,dan deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa rekomendasi arahan pemanfaatan ruang dalam mewujudkan kesejahteraan pada komunitas lokal di Kelurahan Tanjung Merdeka.
