Notre article explicite le processus de construction de l’identité entrepreneuriale en investiguant ses dimensions diasporique et responsable. Pour chacune de ces dimensions, nous contextualisons localement les pratiques entrepreneuriales. Nous analysons alors l’itinéraire d’un entrepreneur franco-malagasy revenant à Madagascar pour entreprendre autrement dans le numérique. Nous adoptons une approche exploratoire et qualitative pour étudier ce cas en mobilisant une grande diversité de sources de données. Nos résultats montrent que l’imaginaire de l’entrepreneur diasporique reflète une idéalité se construisant progressivement dans une démarche de quête de soi infinie. Ses imaginaires et ses actions entrepreneuriales se forgent en tenant compte, simultanément, des réalités locales et des expériences cosmopolites. L’entrepreneur responsable cultive également ses imaginaires en se confrontant à des paradoxes à la fois moteurs et limitants. Ses attentes paradoxales lui permettent d’agir à court terme face à la pauvreté ambiante tout en ayant un impact organisationnel par le partage de valeurs éthiques et sociétales avec ses parties prenantes. Néanmoins, cette différenciation éthique l’éloigne des institutions locales, conduisant à réduire son ambition et à le marginaliser à long terme. Cet entrepreneuriat responsable peut être perçu comme utopique, catalyseur dans les intentions, mais questionné dans sa concrétisation.
