Abstract
The main features of the Canadian industrial system are easily described. Canada is a land with abundant natural resources, well developed resource exploitation industries, a small, relatively high cost branch-plant economy in the processing and fabricating sectors, and a dispersed national market that is expensive to serve because of high transportation costs. Resource-based industries are found in all the major regions of the country but the fabricating sector of manufacturing is concentrated along the St Lawrence Great Lakes Seaway, between Windsor and Quebec City and the industrial corridor which links the two main industrial cities Toronto and Montreal – to each other and to their satellites.
