Abstract
Cet article rend compte des défis qui ont jalonné les premières étapes d’un projet de recherche sur l’expérience des élèves noir·e·s au préscolaire-primaire au Québec. L’étude ethnographique visait à analyser les dynamiques de racisme qui touchent ces élèves, à documenter les stratégies de la communauté éducative pour y faire face, et à soutenir les acteur·rice·s dans la transformation des pratiques et des politiques. Dès la rédaction du projet et lors des premiers contacts avec les milieux scolaires et communautaires, qui constituent le terrain de recherche, les réactions ont révélé l’existence d’un malaise à aborder frontalement la question du racisme. Cette problématique semble remettre en cause un certain ordre des choses et l’idéal de cohésion et de vivre-ensemble. L’article, basé sur les théories critiques de la race et les études noires, explore comment la violence raciste persiste sous des pratiques apparemment inoffensives.
