Abstract
En 2020, dans le sillage du mouvement antiraciste incarné par Black Lives Matter, plusieurs sociétés occidentales sont témoins de contestations visant la présence de statues de personnalités historiques liées à l’entreprise esclavagiste, colonialiste et raciste. Certains groupes militent pour leur retrait, estimant nécessaire de remettre en question cet héritage colonial, tandis que d’autres y voient un effacement de l’histoire, dénonçant une imposition idéologique « woke ». Quel cadre idéologique façonne les débats sur la mémoire publique et l’héritage colonial en Suisse ? Qui détient l’autorité pour valider ou contester cet héritage, et sous quelles conditions ? À travers les concepts d’ignorance blanche et de résistance épistémique (Mills, 1997 ; Medina, 2013), cette analyse examine les discours publics sur le déboulonnement de statues dans deux cantons suisses romands entre 2020 et 2022. Elle montre comment ces discours génèrent une violence épistémique, invisibilisant les voix des communautés noires et marginalisant les perspectives antiracistes sur la mémoire coloniale.
