Abstract
Quel rôle joue la presse lors de l’ouverture de l’Opéra-National, futur Théâtre-Lyrique, sur le boulevard du Temple ? Entre 1847 et 1852, comment réagissent les journaux, généralistes ou spécialisés, face à l’effort de démocratisation que représente la troisième scène lyrique française ? Arrachés au confort des théâtres du centre de Paris, les feuilletonistes et les chroniqueurs couvrent néanmoins l’activité de la nouvelle institution lyrique, accompagnant les différentes phases de sa création. De leurs côtés, les directeurs de ce nouveau théâtre, Adolphe Adam puis Edmond Seveste, recourent massivement à la presse pour légitimer leur entreprise et lui donner toute la publicité nécessaire. Cela n’empêche pas les journaux de développer une réflexion, parfois critique, au sujet de la présence d’une maison d’opéra parmi les spectacles populaires du boulevard du Temple alias boulevard du Crime. En un moment troublé de l’histoire sociale et politique, s’esquisse une réflexion sur le « théâtre populaire », riche d’avenir.
