Caring in a New Context: Young Caregivers’ Experiences During COVID-19 in Canada

Abstract
Informed by feminist care theory, our longitudinal study explores the experiences of four female-identifying young caregivers providing care to family members during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Interpretative Phenomenological Analyses resulted in three overarching themes: (1) multidimensional care within the family; (2) the dynamic nature of providing care; and (3) reluctance for the future. Findings highlight the positive impacts that stay-at-home measures had on some familial relationships, while illuminating the challenges young caregivers faced in their relationships, caregiving for others and the self, and changing orientations to present and future.
