Numerical Simulation of Aerodynamics for Modified Triangular and S1210 Airfoils Under Martian Conditions

Abstract
Mars, with its thin atmosphere primarily composed of carbon dioxide and significantly lower atmospheric pressure compared to Earth, presents unique challenges for aerodynamic design.This study explores the performance of modified triangular and newly designed triangular airfoil and S1210 airfoils in the Martian environment at low Reynolds numbers of 20,000 and 40,000.Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, we analysed the lift and drag characteristics of these airfoils under varying geometric modifications, including slats, rounded edges, and inward/outward bulges, to improve aerodynamic efficiency.The results reveal that S1210 outperform the triangular airfoils, but the newly designed triangular airfoil showed promising results showing better efficiency providing superior lift-to-drag ratios and delayed stall angles, when compared to normal triangular airfoil making them suitable for UAV applications in Martian conditions.
