Optical design and calibration of E-CorMag, a telescope for the observation of solar corona during total solar eclipse

Abstract
The Coronal Magnetograph for Eclipse observation (E-CorMag) is a 500mm f/10 telescope designed for the observation of the solar corona during total solar eclipse events. The instrument is designed for spectro-polarimetric study of the solar corona, by combining observations of the continuum, K-corona (in the wide-band 537-567nm) and of two specific lines, the coronal forbidden line Fe XIV (530.3nm) and the chromospheric He I D3 line (587.6nm). The three filters are spare parts of the ASPIICS coronagraph on-board the ESA PROBA-3 mission. The polarimetry of the two lines and of the continuum will be performed by means of a liquid crystal based polarimeter, the Elegant Bread-Board of the Solar Orbiter/Metis Polarization Modulation Package (PMP). The optical design, the expected performances, as well as the measured performances in laboratory and on-field during the 2024 eclipse campaign will be presented.
