Older Donor Age in Transplanted Kidneys Adversely Impacts the Response to Injury, Increasing Failed Repair

Abstract
Purpose: Old donor age at donation is a major issue in kidney transplantation, causing many kidneys to be discarded. To understand how age affects transplanted kidneys, we studied correlations between donor age and the molecular states in 4502 post-transplant kidney biopsies taken 1 day to 45 years post-transplant. We hypothesized that older donor age limits injury repair, causing “failed repair” of epithelial cells (Genome Med14:103,2022.).
