The Canadian Light Source (CLS), Canada's only synchrotron, seeks to foster curiosity in STEM by exploring ways to influence how science is taught, who sees themselves in science, and how space can be created for Indigenous perspectives within mainstream science. CLS Education strives to support educators and students in understanding the processes of science while emphasizing that collected data are valuable, whether or not it aligns with their initial expectations, as it can lead to further questions and curiosity. In an effort to promote inclusivity in science, CLS Education works to integrate Indigenous perspectives with chemistry. Mainstream scientific practices expanded to incorporate Indigenous perspectives and Ways of Knowing, including connections to Indigenous languages and knowledge shared by Elders. CLS Education's aim through these efforts is to contribute to enhancing science literacy in chemistry and broadening participation in STEM. This article will share examples of how CLS's STEM education activities and approaches inspire curiosity, promote inclusivity, and support science learning.
