Abstract Landslides in sensitive glaciomarine sediments in British Columbia are primarily restricted to uplifted fjordal valleys. Flowslides and spreads are the most common type of failure. These landslides have impacted the built environment (roads, railways, pipelines) as well as the natural environment resulting in habitat loss, stream sedimentation, and landslide dams. The landslides have also benefited geodiversity across the landscape by creating new ecosystems, including wetlands. As the Province of BC acquires more lidar, the refining of complex marine limits and the mapping of additional glaciomarine landslides is made possible. Detailed lidar also makes it possible to distinguish prehistoric flows from spreads.
