A Multifunctional Fire Alarm Based on Phytic Acid-Doped Polyaniline Aramid Fabric for Firefighting Clothing

Abstract
Developing biobased wearable devices with excellent flame retardancy and fire alarm capabilities is crucial for enhancing firefighter safety. Herein, a phytic acid (PA) doped polyaniline modified aramid fabric (PANI/AF) is prepared by polymerizing PANI onto the surface of the aramid fabric using a low-temperature in situ polymerization method. The doping of PA significantly reduced the peak heat release rate (PHRR) of PANI/AF by 76.85% compared to that of aramid fabric. PANI/AF is capable of quickly activating the fire alarm within 3 s of exposure to flames and maintains the alarm signal for an extended period. Furthermore, PANI/AF achieves a photothermal temperature of 68.4 °C under a light intensity of 1000 W/m 2, an electrothermal temperature of 62.6 °C under a voltage of 20 V, and a high electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 16 dB in the X-band. These results suggest the potential of PANI/AF for the development of advanced firefighter protective clothing that provides improved safety, rapid fire detection, and early alarm capabilities.
