Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Since the beginning of the twentieth century, ski touring has undergone a significant revolution, evolving from a utilitarian activity to a recreational, even sporting practice. This article explores the diversification of practices and social representations of this discipline at the turn of the twenty-first century. Traditionally practiced away from marked trails, ski touring has multiplied and now encompasses various forms characterized by its spirit of adventure, the absence of mechanical means, as well as new technical skills imbued with an unprecedented and contested spirit of competition. This shift in diffuse representations of the activity sees an opposition between the tightly clad ‘collants-pipette’ and the defenders of ‘authentic’ ski touring that maintains its original spirit. Thus, this article aims to show that ski touring is now multifaceted and blends into the diverse landscape of mountain sports.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
