Este pequeño texto, “Razón de las matemáticas”, lo conforman cinco unidades en las que se hace un esbozo de los números necesarios en el manejo de operaciones aritméticas y algebraicas; se desglosan y ejemplifican algunas propiedades de la aritmética, además de leyes y criterios. Se hace énfasis en la aplicación de herramientas aritméticas útiles en la solución de problemas reales, así como en el tratamiento de las técnicas y métodos que son útiles en el manejo de la geometría elemental, y la razón de ser de las expresiones algebraicas en los cálculos. Es necesario que el estudiante que se inicia en el estudio del álgebra se ubique en los conceptos, términos y lenguaje que cimientan el álgebra; por ejemplo, lo que concierne al lenguaje algebraico y el despeje, por mencionar algunos.
