L’oeuvre de la compositrice Hildegard Westerkamp montre que le son est ce qui nous relie au monde. Plusieurs de ses pièces travaillent avec des lieux ou des personnes dont elle rend la présence quasi tangible à travers l’expérience sonore. L’auteur s’intéresse ici à la pertinence de l’expression « compositions à base de paysages sonores » que la compositrice utilise pour parler de la plupart de ses pièces. Il se demande si l’on pourrait également parler de « compositions à base de portraits sonores », avant de mettre l’accent sur l’expérience et l’écoute.
