Oxidation of the arylpnictinidenes 2,6-(Ph 2 PNMes) 2 C 6 H 3 Pn (Pn = As, Sb, Bi) with the heavier chalcogens (Ch = S, Se, Te) led to the formation of arylpnictinidene chalcogenides (Ph 2 PNMes) 2 C 6 H 3 PnCh formally containing terminal double bonds, which are best described as bipolar + Pn–Ch − single bonds.
