Abstract
Le présent article examine quelques éléments qui permettent de comprendre comment le périodique Police Journal (1942-1954) a été créé et s’est situé dans le champ des périodiques québécois. Dans la première section, nous nous arrêtons ainsi à la fondation de la revue, produite par l’éditeur éponyme Police-Journal, plus important éditeur de littérature populaire des années 1950. Dans la deuxième section, nous abordons la question des ventes, de la distribution et du lectorat. La troisième section est consacrée aux autrices et auteurs de Police Journal. Finalement, la dernière partie résume les dénonciations dont le périodique fut l’objet. En revenant sur ces différents aspects, nous espérons pouvoir éclairer les opérations éditoriales qui ont permis de faire de Police Journal le magazine de type true crime le plus important du Québec des années 1940 et de la première moitié des années 1950.
