Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In this chapter, I explore how educators in a national network have countered precarity by forging solidarity with each other and their students, communities, and other workers. In particular, I consider how educators in this network conceptualize solidarity and advance this principle through educational processes. This project builds on transdisciplinary research on social justice caucuses, social movement learning, and radical adult education. Using the methodology of movement ethnography, I draw on over four hundred hours of field work within this network, as well as over forty interviews. I find that educators build solidarity and counter precarity through both formal and non-formal education within and across social justice caucuses. In doing so, this chapter sheds light on how educator organizers have built solidarity through educational processes within the UCORE network, building their collective power and countering the precaritization of public education.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
