Abstract
Depuis quelques décennies déjà, les musées constituent des terrains de choix pour les ethnologues. L’ethnologie du musée s’impose aujourd’hui comme une méthode pertinente pour étudier non seulement l’espace expographique, mais également les coulisses muséales. Or, peut-on envisager de faire usage des méthodes de l’ethnologie pour étudier l’exposition par l’entremise de sa conception ? Cet article propose d’en évaluer le potentiel au prisme d’une enquête de terrain lors de laquelle a été étudiée la mise en exposition de la collection archéologique et patrimoniale du site archéologique Cartier-Roberval. À la lumière d’un cycle d’entretiens réalisé avec des professionnels de musée, les résultats offrent un regard interne sur les mécanismes de la mise en exposition et sur les intentions communicationnelles qui la sous-tendent. La méthode ethnologique, à cet égard, permet une lecture et une analyse originales de l’exposition et de son discours.
